Description
The innovators generated a transgenic DBA/2 mouse that expresses a reporter gene, enhanced green fluorescence protein (EGFP), ubiquitously. This CAG-GFP DBA/2 transgenic mouse model can be used to efficiently establish spermatogonial stem cells (SSC) cultures. SSC culture provides a valuable tool to investigate the molecular mechanisms that regulation SSC survival, self-renewal and differentiation. The effects of in vitro manipulations on cultured SSCs (e.g., growth factor treatment or withdrawal, drug or toxicant screening, manipulation of signal transduction pathways) can be screened by SSC transplantation into infertile recipient mouse testes where green spermatogenesis will provide quantitative functional evidence of SSC activity.IP Status
