interACTION: Gamification and Knee Brace Integration
University of Pittsburgh researchers have developed an innovative system called interACTION, designed to enhance the rehabilitation process following Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction (ACL-R). The system integrates a gamified mobile application with a sensor-equipped knee brace, offering remote monitoring and real-time feedback to patients. Specifically tailored for patients under 20, this technology aims to improve adherence to home exercise programs, ensuring more effective rehabilitation and better outcomes without the need for constant in-person supervision.
Description
interACTION is a comprehensive remote rehabilitation system that combines a mobile application with a sensor-enabled knee brace to monitor and guide patients recovering from ACL-R. The brace is equipped with sensors that track knee joint angles, muscle strength, and other critical recovery parameters. These sensors provide real-time feedback to patients, helping them perform exercises correctly and consistently. The data collected is transmitted wirelessly to the interACTION platform, where it is analyzed and used by clinicians to adjust and optimize rehabilitation protocols. The system's gamification elements, developed based on pediatric patient feedback, increase engagement, particularly in younger users, making the rehabilitation process more enjoyable and effective.Applications
