Description
The pharmaceutical industry is about to be required to provide chain of custody tracking for a variety of pharmaceutical products. This disclosure presents an item level solution to the individual medication contained in a blister pack. The initial embodiment is one chip/antenna or one chip/strap per item contained in the blister pack with the antenna connection measurement so connected that removing any one item will invalidate the entire blister pack. This is the point where the consumer will be using the medication and there is no need to continue the chain of custody. The primary means for providing security is the simplicity of the integrated RFID network that can be an incrementally inexpensive addition to the very expensive blister pack fabrication process. Thus, to implement the corresponding security procedure to thwart the security involves the cost of the original fabrication process. Thus, a secure identification method is provided for item level blister packages.
