Description
Gluconeogenesis is essential for maintaining blood glucose levels and providing the only fuel source for the brain, testes, and red blood cells during starvation. This process happens in a pathway regulated by insulin. When hepatic insulin signalling fails, gluconeogenesis becomes unabated, which leads to excessive glucose production. The researchers found that forkhead box O6 (FoxO6) integrates insulin signaling to hepatic gluconeogenesis in mice.
