Virtual Patient Simulation of Diabetic Ketoacidosis

Description

Researchers have developed a a web-based teaching program through which students learn and practice clinical decision making skills and receive learner-specific feedback that depends on their choices. The program uses virtual patient simulation software called VpSim, previously developed by the Laboratory for Educational Technology (LET) at the University of Pittsburgh. The web module developed within VpSim simulates a real-life clinical situation in which the learner acts as a health care professional. He or she makes diagnostic and therapeutic decisions based on the patient’s history and physical examination so they can order and interpret diagnostic tests.
