The new SCS device features a laser-trimmed mesh nitinol structure as the deployable backbone, an ultrathin ePTFE membrane isolating the conductive backbone from the electrodes, and platinum strips for the electrodes. The nitinol mesh backbone allows the device to collapse into a size smaller than a 14-gauge needle, facilitating minimally invasive insertion and removal.
The device consists of a malleable shaft (of varying shapes) with dorsal openings for fluid intake which can be attached to standard tubing linked to a suction device.
• Mechanical tunability for adaptation to blood vessel motions. The metamaterial nature of the stents enables mechanical tuning to adapt to blood vessel motions.
